Sleepless Night poem1

By Casey Cooper

Sleepless Night

The glowing red numbers

never seem to change.

Bleary-eyed vision

catches movement in shadows.

Something is there,

just out of sight,

taunting you with glimpses

but never solid proof.

Almost convincing you

that you've just watched

too much Dr. Who,

and your imagination is holding

you hostage.

Time stretches endlessly

as an eternity passes

between each tick

and tock.

Every noise is amplified;

bugs, wind, howls, and birds.

The birds are the loudest offenders.

Twittering, chirping, and whistling

when all you want

is for them to

SHUT UP!

But, not even silence helps,

not tonight.

Morpheus cannot be enticed

into your bed.

He has forsaken you for another.

Someone else who desires his dreams.

He remains unconvinced

of your love and devotion.

Leaving you to suffer,

Alone.

Staring

at the motionless

Clock.

Waiting

for this sleepless night

To End.

Thanks. I felt like everyone could relate to the topic. Who hasn't had a long night of wishing you were asleep.
